Flat Patternmaking // 8 Weeks // TBA

You can create truly one-of-a-kind designs once you learn the basics of patternmaking!

The flat-pattern method begins with the creation of a sloper or block -- a basic pattern for a fitted women's bodice and narrow skirt, which is then transferred to paper. Once the shape of the sloper has been refined by making a series of mock-up garments called muslins, students learn how to alter this basic shape to create an infinite number of styles by altering necklines, sleeve shape, hemlines and by manipulating shape through the use of darts, pleats, tucks and more. These foundational techniques are necessary to be able to make more complex design and fit adjustments on all sewing patterns going forward as well.

8 weeks; 24 course hours

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced. You must have some experience working with other sewing patterns, making some garments, and understanding basic design changes or fit adjustments. Taking Sewing 301 beforehand (or having similar experience) is recommended.
