MAKE. YOUR. OWN. CLOTHES. Hey, we know you can do it. We demystify the garment making process through the construction of a satisfyingly simple dress or women’s top. You'll learn how to read and follow a pattern and develop the skills you need to move on to more complicated pieces.
Skills learned:
- Introduction to patterns, woven apparel fabrics, body measurements and size charts
- Pattern layout and cutting fabric on-grain
- Seam finishes (you will develop a portfolio of seam finishes)
- Neckline finishing- Darts for shaping
- In-seam pockets
- Sewing curves and hems
Pattern Used: Terrace Dress by Liesl & Co. This is a beginner-friendly pullover dress with scoop neck, center back seam, bust darts, slightly flared hem, in-seam pockets, two sleeve options, and an optional fabric belt for shaping. Can be made into a top, tunic, or maxi length dress. Even if this dress is not your ideal style, you will learn all the necessary foundational techniques to move onto to other garments that suit you better!
Skill Level: Beginner. You should feel comfortable threading a sewing machine and sewing straight seams, but are new to using patterns or making clothing.
Materials not included. You do not need to bring any materials to the first class. The instructor will go over everything you need for the second session.
