When in doubt, start at the very beginning. This course is designed to give novice stitchers a comprehensive foundation in machine sewing. Students will make a lined, zippered fold-over clutch or laptop bag, and will graduate with the confidence to begin tackling anything.

Skills learned:
- Machine threading and operation: sewing straight lines, pivoting, backstitching, changing machine settings, troubleshooting
- Textile selection
- Pattern layout, grainlines, and cutting techniques
- Seaming and topstitching
- Fusing interfacing
- Incorporating a lining
- Attaching a patch pocket
- Installing a zipper
- Attaching hardware (snaps, D-rings)

Skill Level: Novice. No experience needed.

Project materials not included. You do not need to bring anything to the first week and we will go over all the supplies you need to purchase by the second class.
